My Proposal for a Dedicated Social Network for Voters & Candidates

The necessity of a specialized social network for eligible candidates is paramount in preserving our representative democracy, ensuring freedom of speech, and offering voters diverse choices, thereby fostering an informed electorate.

Presently, the U.S. political landscape is dominated by two major parties, the Democrats and Republicans. This duopoly often overshadows independent and third-party candidates, limiting public awareness and voter choice to the detriment of a well-informed electorate. In a representative democracy, the electorate’s views must be reflected accurately, free from the influence of special interests, lobbyists, and undisclosed agendas.

The high financial demands of campaigning currently restrict candidacy to wealthy individuals or entrenched political insiders. This monetary barrier compromises the integrity of our democratic processes and diminishes public trust in elected officials across all levels of government.

As a candidate for California’s 51st Congressional District in the 2024 primary, I am committed to addressing these challenges. My proposal centers on a public-facing social network managed by state Secretaries of State. This platform will serve as a digital town square where qualified candidates can engage directly with voters, free from the biases and censorship prevalent on existing social networks.

Key Features of the Proposed Social Network:

  1. Accessibility and Inclusivity: The platform will be handicap-accessible, supporting voters with visual, auditory, or mobility impairments, and available in multiple languages.
  2. Candidate Profiles: Each candidate will have a page detailing their campaign, including office sought, voting information, and contact details.
  3. Voter Engagement: Voters can access the network anytime, receive updates, and interact with candidates. They can voice concerns and request debates on pertinent issues.
  4. Environmental Consciousness: This digital platform will reduce the environmental impact of traditional campaigning materials.
  5. Weekly Debates: Voters can propose and vote on debate topics, with candidates required to respond via short videos or participate in online debates.
  6. Uniform Naming Convention: A standardized naming convention for state websites (e.g., california.elections.gov) will be implemented to enhance security and ease of access.
  7. Transparency and Trust: Official candidate statements will be public-facing, encouraging openness and detailed policy proposals.
  8. Storage and Retention: Each candidate will have 100 gigabytes of storage for various media, with content retained for up to 10 years unless requested otherwise.
  9. Voter Privacy and Security: Personal voter pages will not be allowed, maintaining voter privacy and security.
  10. Candidate-Voter Interaction: Candidates can email voters for campaign purposes, with voters having the option to block emails if desired.
  11. Non-commercial Use: The platform will be strictly for political engagement, prohibiting commercial or personal profit uses.
  12. Endorsements and Social Features: Endorsements and social media interactions like likes and shares will be enabled, with a reset after each election cycle.

This proposal aims to elevate the democratic process by providing a dedicated, transparent, and interactive platform for candidates and voters. It’s a step towards placing voters at the forefront, ensuring their voices are heard, and their choices are broadened, ultimately strengthening our representative democracy.
